For Children

The best time for an orthodontist to see children is around the age of 7. Usually at this age, the front and back permanent teeth are in. The orthodontist is able to see if there is an early crossbite, an overbite, underbite, crowding, a finger or thumb habit, or other concerns that need to be addressed. Examples of why Dr. Domann and Dr. Orfanos believe in early treatment: it can help prevent a need for extractions of permanent teeth or reduce the chances of permanent teeth becoming impacted. Other reasons include the correction of asymmetrical facial growth, elimination of speech problems, improvement of the airway, or even prevention of surgery. All in all, early treatment may make later treatment simpler.
